SKK Japanese Input is a ChromeOS extension developed by Hiroshi Kurokawa. This free add-on provides a custom Input Method Editor (IME) that allows users to input Japanese text using the Simple Kana to Kanji conversion program (SKK) on ChromeOS.
SKK is a popular Japanese input method with implementations on various platforms such as Emacs, macOS, and Linux. With the SKK Japanese Input extension, ChromeOS users can now enjoy the convenience and efficiency of SKK for Japanese text input.
To enable the SKK input method, users need to follow a few simple steps. First, go to Settings, then Show advanced settings, and finally Languages. From there, click on "Language and inputs" and select "Add input methods." Choose the appropriate SKK option for your keyboard layout and click "Add." To switch to the SKK input method, simply click on "SKK" from the language options.
Additionally, users can load dictionary files in skk-jisyo format by going to the Options menu and inputting the URL of the dictionary file. The extension also provides access to public websites where dictionaries can be obtained.
